To be frank, the name cryptocurrency has always given me irrational heebie-jeebies. Despite having a finance background and researching it extensively as a potential thesis topic, the word crypto still evokes images of something hidden away in an ancient Egyptian crypt.

Ironically, many people would describe it as the “IT” financial instrument of our time. Yet, like any financial product, it demands careful study before it can be considered a viable investment option. Understanding the market, the nature of the asset, and the factors that drive its value should come before any investment decision. While some are attracted by the prospect of quick returns, the gains and losses are ultimately influenced by a host of external factors, many of which can be difficult to predict.

One lesson I have learned over time is to never say never. Coming from a conservative family that instilled the belief that the path of least risk is often the wisest one, even stepping into traditional financial markets felt like a significant shift in mindset. It wasn’t an easy leap to make, but I took it.

Whether I will ever invest in cryptocurrency remains to be seen. For now, I remain cautious, curious, and unconvinced. Time will tell if it ever finds a place in my portfolio.
